HypLab

Verify and Explore

Confirm HypLab is running correctly and take a first look around.

Verify and Explore

You have installed HypLab and started the services. Now let's confirm everything is working and take a quick tour.

Health checks

Open a new terminal (keep make dev running) and run these commands:

Check the API

curl http://localhost:4096/health

What you should see:

{ "status": "healthy", "service": "api" }

If you see this, the backend is running and connected to the database.

Check the frontend

Open your browser and go to:

What you should see: The HypLab sign-up/login page.

Check the documentation (optional)

The documentation site is not part of make dev by default. To start it:

make docs

Then open http://localhost:4091.

Quick tour

Now that everything is running, here's what you can access:

URLWhat it is
http://localhost:4090HypLab web interface -- this is where you'll spend most of your time
http://localhost:4096/healthAPI health check endpoint
http://localhost:4096/api/v1/peopleAPI endpoint for people (returns JSON)
http://localhost:16686Jaeger tracing UI (if telemetry is enabled)

Starting the AI agents (optional)

The AI agents are separate Python services. They are needed for AI-powered template generation, people generation, and persona creation. If you just want to explore the interface first, you can skip this and come back later.

To start all agents:

cd agents
make run-enrichment & # Port 4098
make run-synthetic & # Port 4099
make run-templates & # Port 4100
make run-persona-generator & # Port 4101

You also need an LLM provider key configured -- see LLM Setup.

Stopping services

When you're done, stop everything with:

make stop

This stops all Docker containers and kills any processes on HypLab's ports.

Troubleshooting quick fixes

ProblemFix
Port already in useRun make stop first, then make dev
API health check failsWait 30 seconds and try again -- services may still be starting
Frontend shows blank pageCheck that NEXT_PUBLIC_API_URL=http://localhost:4096 is set in app/.env.local
Database connection errorRun docker compose -f docker/docker-compose.yml ps to check if MongoDB is running
