First Steps
Walk through signing up, creating your first organization, and generating your first people and personas.
First Steps
This guide walks you through your first experience with HypLab, from signing up to viewing your first generated people and personas.
Step 1: Sign up
- Open http://localhost:4090 in your browser.
- Click Sign Up and create your account.
- You will be prompted to create your first organization.
Step 2: Create your organization
- Enter your organization name (for example, "My Company" or "My Agency").
- The system automatically creates a default workspace for you.
- You become the organization Owner and workspace Admin.
What you should see: You land on the main dashboard with your organization name in the sidebar.
Step 3: Complete workspace onboarding
The onboarding wizard asks a few questions to help HypLab understand your context:
- Company context -- what your company does
- Industry -- what industry you are in
- Target audience -- whether you are targeting businesses (B2B) or consumers (B2C)
- Use case -- why you want to use HypLab
Be as specific as you can. The more detail you provide, the better the AI-generated templates will match your needs.
What you should see: A short questionnaire, usually 4-6 questions.
Step 4: Review generated templates
After you finish onboarding, HypLab's AI generates 5 dynamic templates tailored to your answers. For example, if you said you run a B2B SaaS company targeting enterprise buyers, you might see templates like:
- "Enterprise Decision Maker"
- "IT Security Lead"
- "Budget-Conscious Startup Founder"
Each template shows:
- A name and description
- The number of people fields it will populate
- The number of persona fields it will populate
- Whether it's B2B or B2C
You can expand a template to see exactly which fields it uses.
What you should see: A list of 5 template cards on the Templates page.
Step 5: Generate your first people
- Navigate to the Templates page.
- Pick a template that interests you.
- Click "Generate People".
- Choose how many people to generate (1 to 10). Start with 3-5.
- Click "Generate" and wait a few seconds.
What happens behind the scenes:
- The AI generates realistic person records using only the fields specified in the template.
- The system checks if a persona already exists for this template.
- If no persona exists, it creates one with an AI-suggested name.
- The generated people are linked to the persona.
What you should see: A success message. The generated people now appear on the People page, and the persona appears on the Personas page.
Step 6: Explore the results
View your people
Go to the People page. You will see a list of the people you just generated. Click on any person to see their full profile -- all the fields organized by group (Identity, Demographics, Transactions, etc.).
View your persona
Go to the Personas page. Click on the persona that was created. You will see:
- The persona's characteristics (buyer profile, triggers, obstacles, etc.)
- A list of the people linked to this persona
What to try next
Now that you have your first data, here are some things to explore:
- Generate more people from the same or different templates
- Create a person manually -- go to People and click "Create Person"
- Create a custom template -- design your own field selection
- Add custom fields -- extend the standard fields with workspace-specific ones
- Create additional workspaces -- set up separate environments for different projects
Tips for getting started
- Start small. Generate 3-5 people first to understand how templates work before generating larger batches.
- Review the fields. Expand a template before generating to see exactly what data it will produce.
- Try both B2B and B2C. If your onboarding generated both types, compare the differences.
- Edit generated data. AI-generated people can be edited manually -- treat them as a starting point.
